I’ve lived in Virginia for almost 30 years, 22 of those in the same house in Leesburg (as a military brat, it’s the longest I’ve ever lived anywhere!). I’ve watched this County go through some major changes in that time – a population that tripled and the addition of nearly a dozen high schools alone.
My husband, John, and I have been married for 23 years and have two children raised in Loudoun County public schools – a daughter who is currently attending the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, and a son who is a rising Senior at Heritage High School.
I have one child who suffered with anxiety and another who was in the gifted program. For many years, I was also part-time caregiver and advocate for a family member who has an IEP. Through my own personal experience, I understand the wide variety of educational challenges parents can face.
